About Thelemail
Thelemail is an encrypted email hosting service built and operated in Portugal, hosted entirely on European infrastructure in Germany and Finland. It provides private mailboxes on the thelemail.com domain or on custom domains that customers own, for individuals, families, and small teams. The service is built around zero-access encryption: stored mail is encrypted with keys derived from the user's password, so Thelemail cannot read, scan, or analyse the contents of any mailbox. Mail sent between Thelemail accounts is end-to-end encrypted. Mail to outside recipients is automatically end-to-end encrypted when the recipient publishes a compatible OpenPGP key through Web Key Directory, and sent as standard email otherwise. The provider is open about what this model does and does not protect: envelope metadata such as sender, recipient, and timestamps remains visible, as it does with any email provider, and this is documented in a public threat model rather than hidden behind marketing claims. Beyond encryption, the focus is reliable delivery. Thelemail runs its own sending infrastructure with proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, monitored sending reputation, and inbound authentication checks, so mail from customer domains actually reaches inboxes instead of spam folders. Every plan includes unlimited aliases, two-factor authentication, device session management, account recovery, and full data export in standard formats, so customers can leave at any time with their mail and their domain. Thelemail is independently run by its founder, with no venture capital and no advertising. Revenue comes only from annual subscriptions, so the customer is never the product. Plans cover individuals, flat-priced family accounts with multiple mailboxes, and per-mailbox team accounts for small businesses that want European data residency.
