About Unleash
Modern software ships continuously, but features need to be released carefully. To the right users, at the right time, with the ability to roll back instantly if something breaks. Coupling release to deployment is fast but unsafe: one bug reaches every user at once. Unleash decouples them. Engineers ship code; product, growth and operations teams release features independently. Flipping them on for one user, one cohort, one region or 1% of traffic, with full audit trails and an instant kill switch. Ideal customer. Engineering organisations of 50 to 5,000 developers, particularly in regulated sectors — banking, fintech, insurance, healthcare, public sector, defence, telco — where end-user PII must not leave the customer's infrastructure and self-hosting is a hard requirement. Production users include Lloyds Banking Group, Tink (Visa), SAP, Wayfair, Lenovo, Samsung, Prudential, and the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV). Key features. Unleash's SDKs evaluate flags locally inside the customer's application, so end-user data never reaches the Unleash server. Open-source SDKs cover every major language and framework: Go, Node.js, Java, Python, Ruby, .NET, PHP and Rust on the server, and JavaScript, React, Vue, Svelte, iOS, Android and Flutter on the client. Enterprise governance includes RBAC with project and environment scoping, SSO via SAML, SCIM provisioning, change-request approval workflows and signed audit logs for SIEM ingestion. Operational safety includes instant kill switches, metric-triggered automated rollbacks, dependency flags and sub-millisecond evaluation latency via Unleash Enterprise Edge. Experimentation (A/B and multivariate tests with cohort consistency) sends flag-exposure events to the analytics stack the team already uses, such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, Snowflake, Grafana, and Datadog. The differentiator that ties this together: Unleash is the only major feature management platform that is simultaneously open source under a permissive licence (Apache 2.0), self-hostable on day one with the same codebase as the managed cloud, and enterprise-ready out of the box. Deployment and data residency. Four deployment models share the same Apache 2.0 codebase with no functional differences: Unleash Cloud (managed SaaS, EU regions available), private single-tenant cloud in a customer-specified region, self-hosted in customer infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift or bare metal via Docker or Helm), or fully air-gapped on-premises. Because SDKs evaluate locally, the Unleash server only distributes flag configuration — never user identifiers, attributes or behaviour. This sidesteps the data-residency, cross-border-transfer and Schrems II questions that complicate every SaaS-only vendor's compliance story. Self-hosted EU deployment removes the cross-border question for GDPR, DORA, NIS2 and sector-specific frameworks; PHI stays inside the covered entity's stack for HIPAA; FedRAMP-authorised environments inherit host certifications for government workloads. Unleash is SOC 2 Type II certified, and the open-source codebase lets customers audit the implementation rather than rely on vendor attestation. How we compare to non-European alternatives. The category is dominated by US-headquartered SaaS-first vendors. They are mature products, but several structural differences matter for European buyers. Unleash is built by Bricks Software AS, headquartered in Norway, substantive for organisations sensitive to vendor concentration in a single jurisdiction. The Apache 2.0 licence means customers can read, contribute to, fork or audit the source; US competitors are proprietary, so roadmap, pricing and continuity are decisions made entirely on their side of the contract. Self-hosting is a first-class option with the same product as the managed cloud, not a paywalled derivative. Pricing is per-user with generous request allowances rather than monthly-active-user pricing that scales with the customer's business success — materially lower total cost of ownership for most European customers. Public roadmap, public issue tracker, public commit history, 13,000+ GitHub stars and an active community make behaviour-over-time auditable in a way that closed-source SaaS cannot match. For European engineering organisations that value control, transparency, data sovereignty and predictable economics, Unleash is the European-stewarded option that doesn't ask them to compromise on enterprise capability.
